First, a history lesson...
Back in 1993, Mark Walters (Walt) bought THE DOCS for one dollar (and had to secure a loan to do it). He bought the group name from the leader and owner, Tom Blackwood (local racketeer/raconteur), who had purchased it for a similar investment from the founder of THE DOCS: (the legendary) Ed Yeager, who created the organization in 1986. The agreement with Tom was that if the day ever came that Walt was no longer an integral part of THE DOCS, the group would not continue, he would not re-sell the name, and would shut it down.
Now that Professor Walt has moved from Texas to Oklahoma (simultaneously raising the IQ of both states), Gary Walters has found himself pursuing other ventures (spending more time with his iPad2) and Mark Fickert is available to run the group (the REAL reason it’s being shut down), an agreement has been made among the executive council to invoke this contractual termination, push the kill button and (if you’re up on your DOCS lore) eat the cake.
It has been a great ride! Much fun (and little profit) was had by all, so it is with great regret (and a little relief) that we announce 4 OUT OF 5 DOCTORS will shutter its public performance operation, effective immediately.
We are currently trying to arrange one final farewell DOCS performance (and night of binge beer-drinking) at the end of 2012 on a “Holiday On Thin Ice” Tuesday at the POCKET SANDWICH THEATRE. We will keep everyone up to date on last DOCS show information.
One note of interest (to almost no one), 4 OUT OF 5 DOCTORS will maintain a corporate entertainment venture to continue to entertain corporations. We will be sending out information on that, look for us (to annoy you again) sometime in the near future.
THE DOCS may have a descendant, as some of the current personnel are discussing forming their own group (some people never learn). We will also keep you apprised of that situation.
TO ALL OF OUR FORMER MEMBERS, FANS, PATRONS, CRITICS AND DETRACTORS - after almost 26 years of damn fine cutting up, here’s hoping you enjoyed seeing THE DOCS as much as they enjoyed taking your money. Goodbye and remember...
